Theme: GIS – Enabling a Smarter World

Today the role of geography and GIS is increasingly becoming indispensable in addressing the challenges our world is facing. The evidence of this is demonstrated in multitude of mission-critical GIS applications and systems that are deployed around the world. In India as well, all the major government programs such as Digital India, 100 Smart Cities, AMRUT and Swacch Bharat aim to use GIS as a fundamental foundation with a vision of creating a smarter world for us.

A smarter world will mean a world where decisions and actions are enabled with real time data, analytics and automation applications that improve efficiency and decision making. We as GIS professionals have a responsibility to use our capabilities to build systems that support real-time problem applications such as energy usage, emergency management and environmental management and sustainability.

GIS has key role to enable this vision of a smarter world.
